I opened this morning’s post and it included a fine for €80 and two penalty points for speeding. I checked the report and saw that the “incident” occurred shortly before 11:00 last Tuesday morning as I drove from Kilkenny to Carlow. And I know the exact stretch of road – where the limit is 80kph instead of 100kph. It’s a tempting stretch – and I’d say I am normally a little over 80kph. But this time I was doing 101kph. Why? Well conditions were dry, there was no traffic, and visibility was excellent. But that’s not the real reason. The real reason I got the fine was because I had left it too late to leave Kilkenny and I was under pressure to make that meeting. I FAILED to plan my morning properly. What I had been doing in my office before leaving hadn’t been earth-shatteringly urgent. I just didn’t plan right. If I had just left 5 minutes earlier I’d have been fine. How is your study planning? Have you a plan? Or is the plan to just cram? It is never too late to improve your organisation and effectiveness. Check out the study coach packages I offer and then get in touch if you feel you could benefit from help.

However, if there is a pattern to this happening then you need to look at why. And one common reason why this can happen is if you are lacking motivation. If you’re having difficulty getting yourself motivated, try and get to the root cause. Otherwise I’m afraid you may be destined to keep repeating the same pattern!
